Bio:

Joan Miro one of the most inventive masters of modern art, was born in the Catalan city of Barcelona. At fourteen he entered the Barcelona School of Fine Arts and later attended the Gali Academy.

Miro's early work was influenced by Van Gogh and the Fauves and dealt largely with realistic subject matter. In 1919, he made a brief trip to Paris, where he met Picasso and became acquainted with Cubism. While Miro assimilated Cubist aims and techniques, his Catalan instincts, his anti-intellectualism, and his passion for color rendered Cubism basically incompatible to his temperament.

Miro's natural allies were the poets, painters, and rebels who with him, created the Abstract and Surrealist movement along with artists like Wassily Kandinsky, and Salvador Dali.
